Keep Wi-Fi On. Control Which Windows Apps Connect.

Working locally? You can keep your wireless connection available while restricting selected applications.

Why block application connections while Wi-Fi stays on?

Working on a local document does not necessarily require every application to communicate with the internet. WhoIsConnected shows detected applications and their remote networks, so you can decide which application connections to restrict.

A practical control sequence

  1. Open WhoIsConnected and review the detected applications and remote connections.
  2. In Applications Network Control, choose BLOCK ALL to restrict the applications covered by the control.
  3. Use Unblock for applications you want to allow, such as a browser or Outlook.
  4. Start AUTO 10 MIN to refresh the connection display at the selected interval.
  5. Review newly detected applications and block additional ones when appropriate.
What this means: Wi-Fi remains on, while the selected applications' network access is restricted. This is not the same as disconnecting Windows from the network. Blocking applications may affect their normal functions. Application network control requires WhoIsConnected Premium.
WhoIsConnected Applications Network Control showing one blocked application, active monitoring, and other restricted applications
Applications Network Control distinguishes actively monitored blocked applications from applications with existing network restrictions.

What happens to previously restricted applications?

When WhoIsConnected starts, it checks the existing Blocked Networks List and shows associated applications under Restricted Applications. You can choose whether to bring an application into active blocking and monitoring or unblock it. See how to manage previously restricted applications.
